The Apricot Fiesta Students Arts and Crafts show had another very successful year. There were well over 100 entries, and included some very unique pieces. The young artists ranged from preschool to twelfth grade; there was also an adult category. The gallery drew a lot of spectators, some of whom had never been to the Fiesta gallery before. The praise given to the artists and the art gallery display was very heartwarming.

There are a lot of very talented artists in Patterson, and this art gallery gives them opportunity to display their masterpieces. The chance to share their art with others in a public setting is priceless. The excitement in their eyes when they see a ribbon hanging next to their art piece makes all the organizing hours well worth it.

Each year the entries are different and styles vary. To our surprise, there were a lot more adult entries this year. There were so many beautiful art pieces, which were made from recycled materials, bronze, paint, plaster, wood, rocks, sand and Legos, just to name a few.

All of the art entries were judged, and ribbons were awarded in first, second and third place, by grade and categories. A Best of Show ribbon was awarded to one lucky artist whose piece received the judges’ highest combined score. But no artist goes home empty handed; every entry received an honorable mention ribbon for their art piece. All of the art was displayed at City Hall during Apricot Fiesta weekend.

Best of Show

Apricot Fiesta’s 2019 Student Arts and Crafts Best of Show winner goes to Jose Lopez for his bronze balloon dog.

Jose’s bronze balloon dog was an eye-catcher for all spectators, young and old alike. The masterpiece, with its many steps, took about two months to complete. The process is called lost wax. The initial step is chicken wire to form a frame. Then there are a number of other procedures, including plaster, wax process, preparing a mold, ceramic shield and then finally casting in bronze were all needed to complete the bronze figure.

This long process produced a magnificent piece and was worthy of our Best of Show ribbon.

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our artists!!
