25 Years Ago – June 2, 1994

The Patterson High Tigers placed four of its members on the all-league baseball team. They are seniors Mario Medina and Wency Rios, junior Benji Lozano, and sophomore Tony Lomeli. Medina, an infielder, was a MVP candidate.

Erica Corral was crowned Miss Patterson at last weekend’s Apricot Fiesta. David Santos served as master of ceremonies at the pageant.

50 Years Ago – June 5, 1969

Local businessman and former Mayor Mario Ielmini has been made a knight in the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity. Ielmini and three other Californians received the honor in a ceremony in San Francisco.

The Patterson Beautification Committee has completed planting shrubs around the Circle Building. It also has planted 200 trees on city streets.

Mike Lamack is the new commander of American Legion Post 168, Dr. Vernon Goutiere will soon become president of the Patterson Rotary Club, and John Strope will head the Patterson Association of Teachers. Charles Hansen is the new Lions Club president, while Lynn Apland is the master counselor of DeMolay.

Dave Klein is home on leave from Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi but will soon leave for Libya where he will do ground radio work.

75 Years Ago – June 9, 1944

John Welch is the incoming American Legion post commander.

The C.L. Dick Co. of San Jose will operate the large dehydrating plant at El Solyo Ranch.

When the local fire siren sounds, numerous Pattersonites are prone to call the switchboard to inquire about the location of the blaze. This has caused problems for the volunteer firefighters who must themselves call in to check the location. Thus a cease and desist is requested.

100 Years Ago – June 7, 1919

Area farmers are meeting to discuss the current grasshopper invasion. Last year the grasshopper crop loss was estimated at $100,000.

Rodney Edwards has been discharged from the Army, having been held over several months after the war’s end. He specialized in servicing small engines.

A Patterson committee of adults has been appointed to reorganize the local Boy Scout program which discontinued during the war years.
