Double Fatality on I-5

A Toyota Forerunner went down an embankment around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26. Neither the driver nor the passenger survived.

Two men died late this afternoon when a Toyota Forerunner they were in ran off the road on Southbound I-5.

Patterson West Stanislaus Fire Protection District Chief Don Armario said via text that the vehicle went off the road about three miles South of Sperry Avenue and rolled down the embankment, landing on its right side in a dry creek bed. “The driver had been ejected,” he said, adding that the he had not survived the crash. “The passenger was still in his seat,” he said, but was also deceased, when first responders arrived at the scene.

Armario said firefighters responded to the call at 4:23 p.m.

Fortunately, the firefighters responding to this accident were not the same as those who have battled the blaze now known as the Rock Fire, as a new crew came on this morning.

No further information about this accident has been released at this time.
