What was originally reported as a 75-acre fire in the Del Puerto Canyon was described as 200 acres and “fast-spreading” about an hour later. The first call reporting the blaze came in shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officials closed Del Puerto Canyon Road around 9 p.m. Numerous engine companies from both Stanislaus and Santa Clara counties have been called out to fight the blaze.

No estimate for when the fire might be contained has been given at this time. At least one firefighter said he expected they would be on scene “all night.”

More details as they are released.
