*** UPDATE, 6/14, 10:04 a.m.: Chief Nuno has announced that Abel Edward Lemas was taken into custody in this felony hit and run case at Downey High School in Modesto and booked into the Stanislaus County jail facility at around 9:30 this morning. Investigation into this case is ongoing.

*** UPDATE, 9:30 p.m.: Patterson Police Chief Marc Nuno has confirmed that the individual sought below has been contacted, and expressed thanks to the community for its assistance.

Patterson Police Services is asking for your help in locating a person of interest who was allegedly involved in a felony hit and run accident the night of May 31.

The subject, 51-year-old Abel Edward Lemas of Modesto, is believed to have been driving a vehicle that went into a ditch in the area of Highway 33 and South First Street. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, the subject had fled. It is believed that there was only one passenger in the vehicle, a 57-year-old female Patterson resident. Due to the injuries to the passenger, this case is being treated as a felony.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Patterson Police Services at 892-5071, option 4.
