Patterson High’s first year in the Central California Conference has been fraught with adversity. It may have taken until the spring to do it, but the Patterson High varsity softball team did it again: they ended the league title drought with a 9-6 victory over Merced on May 6.

The victory ensured the Tigers a share of the league title. Patterson currently sits at 10-2 in the standings. Golden Valley has a chance to tie for a co-championship when they played Merced on Wednesday, May 8 after press time.

On Monday, Patterson clinched their share of a league title in resounding fashion against Merced.

The Tigers wasted no time getting started, scoring five runs in the first inning.

Junior Carli Medina got it started with a one out single. After a flyout from senior Carolyn Dallimore, senior Aubrey Garcia blasted a home run to left field, to put Patterson up 2-0 with two outs in the first.

Junior Delihla Garcia followed that up with a walk, then senior Alexis Zavala was hit by a pitch. Senior Sygna Tomasegovich came in for her as a courtesy runner.

Sophomore Sariah Perez made Merced pay with a two RBI triple, to put Patterson up 4-0.

Senior Breanna Gill walked, and during the at bat of senior Liliana Espinoza, a wild pitch scored Perez from third base, to increase the lead to 5-0. Espinoza ended the top of the first with a flyout.

Patterson tacked on additional runs in the top of the second inning. Sophomore Danielle Werra Torres opened up the frame with a single. Werra Torres stole second before Medina drew a walk, setting up first and second with no outs.

Dallimore grounded out, but Aubrey Garcia walked to load the bases. Delihla Garcia cashed in with a single to left field, scoring Werra Torres and Medina. Zavala followed up with another single to left field, pushing in Aubrey Garcia and increasing the lead to 8-0.

Patterson would tack on an additional run in the fourth inning, but the eight runs through the first two frames was more than enough to garner the victory over Merced.

This is the second season in a row the Tigers have captured league title glory, having won a league title in their final campaign in the Western Athletic Conference last spring.
