The Mountain House junior varsity girls (4-3) placed third at the California High tournament in San Ramon this past weekend.
The Mustangs finished with a 56-50 win over the host team in the third-place game on Saturday after taking the lead in the second quarter. Jenessa Pena led the way for the Mustangs with 13 points, Tatyana Jackson scored 12 and Arielle Tala scored 11.
The Mustangs fell behind early in their semifinal loss on Friday, 55-43 to Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa. Tala scored 15 points for the Mustangs.
Mountain House opened with a 46-37 win over Amador Valley as they took a 25-12 halftime lead and stayed consistent through the second half. Tala and Mariana Holtz scored nine points each for the Mustangs.
Turlock 47, West 44
The West girls basketball team (3-7) recovered from an early deficit but let a 35-31 third-quarter lead slip away in the fourth quarter Saturday at Turlock High (6-2).
Senior Sandy Barbosa scored 16 points in the loss, including three 3-point shots, and senior Kate Bell contributed eight points.
West 59, Orestimba 41
The West High girls kept up a consistent offensive effort for the win Dec. 18 at Orestimba High in Newman.
The Wolf Pack outscored the Warriors in every quarter. Junior Brittney Reyes led the charge with 20 points, including three 3-point shots, and also led the Pack on defense and rebounds.
Senior Kate Bell added 15 points, and senior Sandy Barbosa scored 14 points.
