Local team moves up in state cup competition

Alternativo Futbol Club Tracy United 07 girls took second place in the under-11 Platinum 2 division of the NorCal State Cup tournament, which concluded Feb. 25 at Mary Grogan Park in Modesto. The team beat Central California Soccer Alliance in their Feb. 3 quarterfinal match, playing to a 2-2 tie and then winning on a 5-4 penalty kick shootout. They followed that win with a 6-0 victory over East Bay United Bay Oaks Gold to earn a spot in the championship game. They faced IR Academy 07 White and lost 4-0. Coach Carlos Muñoz noted that a second-place finish at the Platinum level represented a substantial move up since the team started NorCal State Cup competition two years ago in the Bronze division.
