Michael Ellis Langley

The Tracy Press is searching for a new editor following the resignation of Executive Editor Michael Ellis Langley.

Langley is leaving the weekly newspaper serving Tracy and Mountain House to join the staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore. His final day will be Thursday.

Langley was raised in Tracy and joined the Tracy Press in June 2013.

“It was the dream I never knew I had,” he said Tuesday. “I am so grateful to Publisher Will Fleet and the staff at the Tracy Press for allowing me to sit briefly in the chair once occupied by Sam Matthews and others and serve the community that helped raise me.”

Fleet talked about how Langley’s background as a journalist and Tracy native served the newspaper.

"Michael came to us with no experience in newspapers, but a wealth of local news management experience in TV and radio,” he said. “He turned out to be the ideal local newspaper editor who brought to us a great deal of energy and commitment. I am especially grateful for his many contributions to the Tracy Press print and digital products, and to the community at large. We will miss Michael's leadership, but we also wish him the very best as his career moves forward."

During Langley’s tenure, the Tracy Press has been honored with 19 awards by the California News Publishers Association, including two separate third-place awards for overall excellence among all similar-sized newspapers across the state.

Applicants who are interested in learning more about the position can email Fleet at wfleet@tracypress.com.
