A grass fire whipped by high winds set wood piles, fence posts and a car ablaze on the afternoon of June 6 off Tracy Boulevard south of Tracy Municipal Airport.

The fire began in a field on a residential property off the road and spread quickly, fanned by gusts of wind. Firefighters from South San Joaquin County Fire Authority and Cal Fire used a water truck to supply water for their engines as they got the fire under control.

Strong winds and high temperatures with low humidity have kept firefighters on the alert for increased fire danger.
