Tracy Police and California Highway Patrol officers took 50 second-graders on a shopping trip Saturday morning during the 10th annual Shop with a Cop event.

The program, funded by a Wal-Mart grant, gave each of the children a $50 gift card and paired them with officers who escorted them through the aisles of the store to pick out toys or other items.

One boy or girl was chosen from every second-grade class in Tracy Unified School District and Jefferson Elementary School District, which was added this year.

After the shopping trip, the children were treated to breakfast at McDonald’s inside Wal-Mart.
