Lexie Hedley of Tracy recently returned from Florida as a world champion in all-star cheer.
Hedley, 16, is a member of the California All-Stars Black Ops cheer team out of Livermore, which finished as the top team among all the competitors at the International All Star Federation’s biggest event of the year, The Cheerleading Worlds, April 27-29 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. The competition drew teams from 40 countries, including about 4,000 athletes.
Hedley and the rest of the Black Ops team performed two routines from a repertoire of high-speed, choreographed team acrobatics. Their winning routine in the Level 5 Senior Medium Coed division gained them a score of 147.5 out of 150, including perfect-10 scores in the categories of stunts, tosses and jumps. In addition to being the winning score in their 10-team division, it was the top score in any of the 20 divisions at the competition.
It’s the second year in a row the Black Ops team has won the international title.
